Kampala Traders Threaten to Stop Paying Licenses Over Poor Road Conditions

Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) has issued a warning that their members will stop paying trade licenses to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) if they don't address the issue of potholes on the roads which have become a major inconvenience for drivers.

According to the chairperson of KACITA, Mr. Thadeus Musoke, the traders pay a significant amount of taxes to KCCA, but they do not receive adequate services in return. He specifically mentioned the issue of potholes which have exacerbated traffic congestion and adversely affected business activities.

“If KCCA doesn’t change its ways of operation and the government also fails to listen to our cry, we will mobilise traders and instruct them not to pay trading licences because we are not seeing value for money,” Mr Musoke said.

The traders are now demanded that KCCA take immediate action to repair the roads and become more productive and proficient in their duties. According to Mr. Musoke, the poor condition of the roads in the city leads to vehicle maintenance costs, delays in operations, and loss of business, resulting in an estimated annual loss of about Shs2.9 trillion for the business community.
