Marine Police Recovers Bodies of Parm Oil Workers Who Drowned From Ferry.

Marine Police in Kiryandongo District have been able to recover eight bodies, while one worker remains unaccounted for from a tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, at Maruzi Palm Oil Farm, where nine workers were reported missing after drowning in the River Nile.

In the early morning at approximately 5 am, an accident occurred involving a group of 13 individuals who were crossing from Apac district to Kiryandongo via the Masindi Port ferry. Tragically, the canoe they were on capsized in the River Nile, resulting in the loss of nine lives while leaving four survivors. Preliminary investigations suggest that the group, who had been working at the Palm farm without receiving their wages, was sailing towards Kiryandongo and Masindi in search of additional employment opportunities. According to Edison Muhangi, the Kiryandongo District Police Commander, "it was discovered that all 13 passengers aboard the canoe were intoxicated, which is believed to have contributed to the mysterious accident."

According to Muhangi, "the search for the missing body is ongoing, with both the police and local community actively involved in the efforts. Meanwhile, the eight recovered bodies have been transported to Kiryandongo Hospital Mortuary, where they will remain until the response from their respective relatives. Among the tragic incident's survivors, four individuals have been identified as Byewaso Godfrey (36 years old), Muleka Bosco (30 years old), Lukwampe Peter (18 years old), and Locire Simon (14 years old), who were responsible for operating the ill-fated canoe."
