Minister Mwebesa Nominates New Ministry of Trade Accounting Officer

The Minister of Trade Industry and Cooperatives Hon Francis Mwebesa has written to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development nominating a new Accounting Officer.

Minister Mwebesa was responding to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development who is also the Secretary to the Treasury Ramathan Ggoobi who demanded that a new Accounting Officer be nominated.

This was after the Parliamentary Committee on Tourism Trade and Industry investigated the utilization of the supplementary budget for the Ministry for 2021/22 and made a resolution to have the Permanent Secretary Ms Geraldine Ssali Busulwa relieved of the position of Accounting Officer.

Consequently, Ggoobi wrote to the Minister of Trade Industry and Cooperatives who the supervisor is requesting him to nominate an officer as a new Accounting Officer.

In a letter dated October 6th 2023, Minister Mwebesa appointed the Under Secretary in Charge of Finance and Administration Alfred Oyo Andima as the Accounting Officer, since Ms Ssali is under investigations.

Ms Ssali is being investigated over the utilization of funds to hire rent offices for new office premises of the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives.
