Ministry of Health Clears Police's Forensic Lab for DNA Testing
Ministry of health has cleared police forensic laboratory to keep testing DNA and giving out results. Fred Enanga the police mouthpiece told journalists at a press briefing at police headquarters in Naguru.
"Ministry of Health has cleared and given us the permission to keep testing for DNA and give results especially during our investigations," says Enanga.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health made an official announcement, limiting DNA testing services in the country to just two laboratories. The selected laboratories authorized to carry out DNA testing are MBN and the Government Analytical Laboratory. With this decision, other entities or facilities that were previously providing DNA testing services are no longer allowed to do so.
This development comes as part of the government's efforts to enhance forensic capabilities and facilitate investigations in cases where DNA testing is crucial. The approved laboratories will play a significant role in assisting law enforcement agencies and other relevant institutions in obtaining accurate and essential DNA results for various purposes, such as criminal investigations, paternity testing, and identifying missing persons.
