Police Suspends NUP Countrywide Mobilisations

Uganda Police Force has finally suspended all country wide mobilisations of the National Unity Platform (NUP) after issuing several warnings but with no compliance from the party, we have learnt.

The suspension which came as shocking news to NUP members was revealed by Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga during an abrupt press conference at police headquarters in Naguru Kampala.

Enanga says under Sec 32(1) of the Police Act, granted permission to NUP platform to conduct Nation wide mobilisation activities and official opening of the party offices. "Additional guidelines on the proper conduct of the activities were also given which included, proof of permission," says Enanga. 

The police spokesperson added during their activities, there has been total breaches to the guidelines thus causing public disorder, unnecessary traffic jam, loss of business, malicious damages among others.
"In Mbarara city the rowdy NUP supporters vandalised a Toyota Hiace number UBD 251J," Added Police mouthpiece. He added that in Luwero, NUP mobilisations incited violence and promoted sectarianism, make illegitimate calls for the removal of the elected government.

"When NUP is ready to comply with the guidelines and rule of law, their mobilisations will resume," he stated.
