UBOS Gets New Board Ahead of Census Launch
President Yoweri Kaguta who also doubles as the appointing Authority through the Ministry of Finance and Economic planning has appointed the new Board Members of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) an independent body responsible for giving out National Statistics and given the mandate of carrying out National Housing Population Census in Uganda, Spyreports has learnt.
According to our credible and trusted source, the President on Monday during cabinet meeting at State House Entebbe, appointed Dr Albert Byamugusha a Statician by Professional to serve as UBOS Chairman Board for the next three years. Dr Byamugisha who is currently working with the office of the Prime Minister is serving his second term of office. Insiders say other Members whom the President entrusted and brought them back on UBOS Board are Mr Jacob Opolot who represents Bank of Uganda, Mrs Rosette Nakavuma who is representing Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
However sources say the President Museveni dropped Prof Robert Wamala who was representing Makerere University, Mr Bernard Mulengani from Private sector and Mr Charles Oleny from National Planning Authority.
Insiders from State House revealed to us that the new Board Members will be sworn on 28th November two days to the launch of Census day. The Launch will be held at Kololo ground and the President will be the Chief guest."Obviously the President could not launch census plan when UBOS has no Board," Says a source from Ministry of Finance. He added the Board is the over seer of the Institution. "Some critics had started saying that Census will not occur since the term of office for the Board had expired. Since the Board is now on for another three years, the public should know that census will occur at all means," Says another senior officer from Ministry of Finance. When contacted UBOS head communications officer Mr Okoth Didacus, he confirmed having a new Board. "Its true the term of office for the Board had expired," he said adding that however the institution has been conducting activities smoothly waiting for the new Board. Mr Didacus adds on Monday UBOS got the new board which will serve for another three years. "The inauguration of the new Board will officially take place on 28th November," he says. He added that the board will be present on 30th when the President will launch Census plan at Kololo grounds.
