URA Hit with shs 600Bn Loss In Last Five Months, PSST Gboobi Demands Answers From Commissioner General Rujoki
Uganda Revenue Authority has been hit by a financial loss of shs 600Bn in the last five months of the financial budget. According to the letter dated 07 December 2023 written by permanent secretary and secretary to Treasurer PSST, Ramathan Ggoobi and addressed to the Commissioner General of Uganda Revenue Authority under the headline REVENUE PERFORMANCE FOR FY 2023/24 AND PLANNING ADMINISTRATIVE INTERVENTIONS which spyreports obtained a copy, PSST Ramathan Ggoobi noted that from the URA's revenue performance report for Oct 2023, preliminary analysis is that the net revenue collection during the first five months of the FY 2023/24 URA registered a short fall and loss of shs 600Bn. PSST Ramathan Ggoobi's letter adds that, from the ministry's modelling, the loss is projected to reach shs One trillion by the end of the financial year unless comprehensive measures are taken to close this gap. "As you are aware this Revenue loss and shortfall is likely to cause alot of budget financing constraints to the entire government and service delivery to the citizens,"PSST Ramathan Ggoobi's letter reads in part. Ramathan Ggoobi's letter further reads as, "the purpose of this letter therefore is to request you to provide this ministry with the planned administrative interventions by Uganda Revenue Authority aimed at addressing the current revenue deficits."
