Police Recovers Phones Stolen in Vumbula Concert in Jinja City

The Kampala Metropolitan Police North (KMP North), in a joint operation with various departments including Cyber, Forensic, Crime Intelligence, and the Flying Squad, has successfully recovered a significant number of mobile phones suspected to have been snatched during the Vumbula Concert in Jinja City . The operation, based on crucial intelligence information, took place on the 6th of June 2023 at approximately 3pm.

A team of dedicated police officers attached to the Kanyanya Police Station, Kawempe Division, acted swiftly upon receiving information. They conducted a raid in Kyebando Central Zone, resulting in the apprehension of two suspects. The individuals have been identified as Nuwamanya Julius, also known as Nsubuga James, aged 20, and Kisakye Mark, aged 20, both residents of Kyebando Central Zone, Kampala District. Nuwamanya Julius, is a technician by profession, while Kisakye Mark is self-employed.

During the operation, the following items were recorvered from the suspects:

03 Samsung smartphones
01 itel smartphone
A blue Nokia smartphone
03 itel button phones
03 Nokia button phones
01 power bank
03 National identity cards
01 Ugandan passport in the name of Judith Kyarimpa
01 identity card for Saudi Arabia in the name of Judith Kyarimpa
08 MTN SIM cards
13 Airtel SIM cards
03 Lycah cards
03 damaged hard disks
01 APC converter
01 UBN radio
01 Dell 14-inch laptop
01 WiFi D-link
Following the recovery, a case of possession of suspected stolen items was registered under Kanyanya .The recovered items have been properly exhibited and securely attached to the case file. Additionally, relevant statements obtained during the investigation have been included as evidence.

"Police findings indicate that the recovered mobile phones were in a second-hand state, with some displaying cracked screens and covers. Notably, the iPhones lacked SIM cards, and several had photos of their rightful owners visible on the screens," Luke Owoyesigyire said.
