Speaker Among Orders Sports Minister To Account For Shs97bn For Namboole Stadium.

The Speaker has directed the State Minister for Sports Hon Peter Ogwang to present a statement on the status of Namboole Stadium and accountability of Shs97 billion that was released for that work.

 "If they say they want more money, let them tell us what the Shs97 billion has done".

Speaker Anitah Among noted that the National Team  is supposed to play against Algeria in the qualifiers but the ground is not ready.

 "Morocco offered to host us for free but Algeria has declined to play there because of their issues. Can the minister give us a way forward on Namboole"? The speater told the Minister. 

Chief Opposition Whip, Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe has epressed concern about the slow progress of works at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole expressing worry since Uganda preparing to host World Cup Qualifiers. 

 "We are bound to miss out on hosting the World Cup qualifiers if the facility is not completed. Can the gov't tell us where the problem is" He said 

The Shs97 billion rehabilitation project commenced in 2022 and has met a number of challenges such as land wrangles and delayed delivery of supplies, among others.

  The Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Museveni had said that the renovation process at facility will be completed by November 30th, 2023 but still 

Mandela National Stadium had been temporarily closed in 2019 for renovations since it was not ready to host any matches including international games. 

Mandela national stadium  Namboole is a 42000seater capacity now being refurbished by UPDF Engineering Brigade.
