UPDF Officer, City Lawyer Arrested over Killing one, Robbing shs 72M from Mobile Money Agent

Detectives attached to Jinja Road Police Station have arrested a Uganda People's Defense Force "UPDF" and a legal assistant over allegations of killing a business man and robbing money worth shs 72M from a mobile money agent. 

The arrested UPDF officer has been identified as Guma Vincent aged 34 years a resident of Kikubamutwe army barracks along Kayunga Road while a legal assistant has been identified as Mugerwa Darglous aged 47 years and a resident of lake side luzira nakawa division a Kampala suburb.

Police also identified the deceased as Richard Ssenyondo 38 years a business man and a resident of Mutungo in Nakawa and his body has been conveyed in Mulago for postmortem examination. The injured victim has also been identified as Betty Nakigudde who is receiving medical treatment in a hospital that hasn't been named.

According to reports, Bahati Aggrey and Nyamukulu Annah were in the process of closing their Mobile Money outlet when two armed thugs approached them. The assailants fired shots into the air, causing panic, and Bahati Aggrey managed to escape, leaving Nyamukulu trapped inside the shop.

"The criminals proceeded to break into the shop, stealing a total of UGX 72,000,000 (Seventy-two million shillings). As the perpetrators fled the scene, they encountered members of the public who attempted to intervene. During the encounter, the thugs discharged their firearms, resulting in the death of Ssenyondo Richard and the injury of Nakigudde Betty," SSP Patrick Onyango the KMP Spokesperson said.

An AK-47 firearm was recovered as evidence. A team of police officers from the Kampala Metropolitan Police East and Jinja Road Police Division visited the crime scene and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are pursuing leads to bring all those responsible to justice.
