Jinja Police is holding three suspects on allegations of Kidnap and raping of 60 women before robbing them off their properties.
The arrested have identified as as Wanyama Robert alias Wakodo Jackson and Nabirye Zubeddah.
Twiine Mansio Charles spokesperson CID said that the arrest of the three suspects came after they got information about a kidnap of two girls whose kidnaper was asking for ransom of UG Shs. 500,000.
“A complaint was made on 30th October 2020 by a mother of one Sophia (Not real names) who reported that her daughter aged 18 years who is a student in form 6 in one the schools in Iganga, had been Kidnaped together with a friend, and that the kidnaper was asking for a ransom of Ugx 500,000.” Twiine said.
Twiine adds that upon receipt of the complainant, detectives from flying squad working with colleagues from CMI were detailed to track the number that the suspect had shared to have the money deposited on mobile money, as well as rescuing the victims whose whereabouts were unknown.
“On 30th October the Victims were found in a complete wretchedly disconsolate state, in Kakira Sugar Plantation, and were immediately rushed to Jinja Referral Hospital for Medical Treatment.” He said.
Twiine adds that the hunt for the prime suspect continued until 11th November 2020 when the joint task force arrested the suspect whom they identified as Wanyama Robert alias Wakodo Jackson.
Twiine says that during the course of investigations, the detectives established that the same suspect was linked to other similar crimes that had been reported at Kakira Police station at different dated from April 2020 to October 2020.
“We also established that the suspect’s acts were syndicated and organized involving other people who are still at large, though two women namely Nabirye Zubeddah and another yet to be identified have been arrested as accomplices that lure most of the victims.”he adds.
Twiine says according to the suspects own confession, he had raped about 60 victims according to the list which he personally complies in a note book that was got from him.
Twiine adds they further established that the suspect through his accomplices lures the victim for jobs at the Fuel stations in either Mbale and Busia ,but turns against them and rape them along the way at any nearby convenient thick bush as they proceed to the purported destiny.
“We also established that some of the victims were forcibly kidnapped from Bugembe Church of Uganda Cathedral gardens by the suspect, after presenting him as a security personnel, and accusing them for not observing SOPs, before he moves them on foot, only to find themselves raped and abandoned in Kakira Sugar Plantation.” He added.
According to Twiine, the suspects statements have been recorded including an extra-judicial statement and the detectives are now reconstructing the scenes, and vigorously looking for more victims, as only 8 victims have been identified.
He says the suspects will soon be taken to Court and be charged with Rape, Kidnap, Trafficking in Persons as well as Aggravated Robbery.
