Government has started investigating companies that were given contracts to procure Masks after getting information that some of them produced and are still producing substandard Masks that are given to Ugandans.
Judith Nabakooba the Minister of ICT told us that investigations have already commenced on to some companies and the owners will be arrested, contracts cancelled and also be ordered to refund the money the government gave them as deposit.
“This is a big disappointment on the side of the suppliers entrusted with the responsibility of producing quality face masks meant to save lives of Ugandans.” Nabakooba said.
She assured the public that government is committed to ensure that all Ugandans have access to free and good quality masks.
Nabakooba also called upon residents in all those areas that have not yet received masks to remain calm. Efforts are underway to have them delivered to their respective local governments.
The minister further warned the public that under the current circumstances, it is obvious that people will only comply after another lock down has been put in place.
Nabakooba also warned malicious individuals who concentrate on spreading false news about government and other public officials.
“The social media platforms have been busy with a lot of fake news targeting His Majesty the King of Buganda. Uganda Communications Commission is monitoring some of these unscrupulous individuals and very soon arrests will be made.” She noted.
