Police Hunt Kenyan Driver Over Jinja Road Accident

The Uganda Police Force Traffic and Road Safety Directorate on Thursday said they were hunting for the driver of a trailer registration number KCN 028Q/ZD 1706 who fled the scene immediately after hitting and dragging a Toyota Premio into a trench.

Faridah Nampiima the Traffic Police spokesperson noted that on Thursday morning at around 1:00 am, they registered a serious accident along the Kampala-Jinja Highway.

“The accident involved motor vehicle registration number UAQ 535F Premio that was being driven by  Tabwa Amatwa and KCN 028Q/ZD 1706 trailer driven by a yet to be identified driver who fled the scene immediately after the accident. It is alleged that the trailer which was coming from Jinja heading to the city centre at a high speed, lost control and knocked the Toyota Premio which was from the Kampala side,” Nampiima said.

She noted that the driver of the Premio sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mulago Hospital in critical condition and that efforts were in place to track down the driver to help in investigations.

Traffic flow on the busy road was disrupted between Banda and Kyambogo following the nasty accident.

The Police arrived at the scene and sealed off the area to investigate further as curious onlookers gathered along the road.

A large part of the smaller vehicle ― mostly the front ― got mangled from the impact of the crash. It was not clear yet how the accident occurred and what caused it.
