Fallen Kamuli MP’s Daughter Joins Race For the Vacant Seat

Voters and entire population of Kamuli District have endorsed Baroda Kayanga Watongola the daughter of late Hajat Rehema Watongola the former Kamuli Municipality Member of Parliament to take up the MP Seat.

Hajat Rehema Watongola succumbed to Covid 19 two weeks ago. Her daughter was nominated today by Kenneth Kayabwe at Electoral Commission in Kamuli town.

Kayanga chose a chair as her campaign and election symbol, which was similar to her late mother.

“Death robbed us of a leader and it merely put a coma not full stop to her political dreams for the municipality. I am honored to be nominated to continue from the coma, ready to serve her people so that her spirit dwells in peace,” says Kayanga after being nominated.

Others in the race included Mastula Namatovu (National Resistance Movement), Moses Bigirwa (National Unity Platform) and Eng Godfrey Mugoya (Independent).

Watongola died on November 14 and was laid to rest on November 16, at Butende, Kamuli.

During the burial, some family members alleged that Coronavirus was merely an opportunistic disease that killed her after allegedly being poisoned.

Kayanga holds a Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation from Kyambogo University where she is pursuing a degree in the same field.
