Police Flying Squad Arrests One for Illegal possession of Gun

Police Flying Squad in Gulu yesterday arrested a suspect for illegal possession of a gun at his home. The suspect who has been identified as Onencan Fred a resident of Awer village, Palema parish Lamogi Sub county, Amuru District had for along time terrorized the residents of his village.
Onencan was arrested and detained at Amuru Central Police Station for assaulting a Police officer Cpl Oling Walter from Awer. The gun discovery came as a tip off from the residents of Awer village who were scared for their lives and upon interrogation by Flying Squad, Onencan Fred revealed where he had kept the gun.
Police searched his home and  recovered a rifle with 19 rounds of ammunitions. The suspect claims he bought the rifle from one Ozima who was in Hoima at Shs  2 million, while he was guarding National Drug Authority.
During the gun recovery, police whisked him to Gulu police station since community members wanted to lynch him because he was a big threat to them.
ASP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Public Relations officer ASWA region confirmed the incident. He adds that the suspect is currently being detained at Gulu Police Station on charges of illegal possession of fire arm and assault.
“Onencan was transferred to Gulu Police station to prevent him from being lynched by the angry residents of Awer village. The suspect will be charged with illegal possession of fire arm and assault.”

ASP Okema says that investigations to trace Ozima whom the suspect claims to have bought the gun from is on going.
